George Aviles1 StarI had an extremely disappointing and troubling experience dealing with Randy Zebold’s attorney, Paul Contessa. After renting a home infested with toxic mold and requesting the return of my $10,200 deposit, instead of promptly complying with Florida law, Mr. Contessa attempted to coerce us into signing a “settlement agreement and release” that was entirely inappropriate and self-serving.
Rather than simply returning the funds we were legally entitled to, he tried to camouflage the refund as a settlement and demanded we waive all rights to pursue legitimate claims for the landlord’s blatant negligence and failure to disclose dangerous conditions. This tactic was deceptive and unprofessional. It felt like an attempt to intimidate and manipulate us into giving up our rights, all to protect his client from accountability.
An attorney should act ethically and fairly—not weaponize legal documents to pressure tenants into silence after they’ve suffered harm. Based on this experience, I would caution anyone dealing with Mr. Contessa to proceed carefully and ensure they understand their rights before signing anything he drafts.Wednesday 16th July 2025
